When I first joined this site I never thought I would get this deep into doing research for other members questions (sometimes over a hour hitting the books/catalogs for answers), and now about a month or so charting serial numbers for my personal 3rd print errors that was put off for years.

Since I learned how serial numbers are assigned to fixed currency plate position numbers (COPE vs LEPE thread), and skip numbering to advance the notes serial numbers, I feel 99.9% certain I can chart the other 31 serial numbers from the same sheet this overprint on reverse error was printed on.

I spent a good part of my time making some charts of what I believe to be the correct serial numbers on error notes that had been printed with the reverse side up when entering the COPE process.

To confirm if the other 31 serials are correct, I would need a exact serial number match of a second example from this sheet, and with some luck can locate the whereabouts of others.

On my note the serial number K21549588A, is located on plate position D2, and my note plate number is H2.

Since the 32 subject sheet is trimmed in half prior to receiving the serials, it is quite possible that only half the sheet, in this instance quadrants #1 & 2 have this error and quadrants #3 & 4 were printed normal with no error. The only way to confirm this would be to locate another note with serials printed in quadrants 3 or 4.

This may seem a bit confusing at first, and easier to understand when viewing the COPE chart.

Place the front side of this note in the H2 position (this note's plate number), then imagine this note on the 16 subject sheet and turn the sheet over with the back side (1st print) up, you will notice the H2 note is now in COPE's D2 plate position, thus receiving the assigned serial numbers for D2.

Below is a 32 Subject Sheet showing what I believe to be numbers with this same error...

The only place I can think of to start this search is on CCF, let the search begin and see how far off I am.

I consider this my personal achievement as I stopped collecting a few years back when legal/settlement fees prevented me from future numismatic purchases, and never thought I would delve into currency again.

Since I'm not always checking past threads I post, ask anyone that has a note from this sheet to message me after their reply.

I saw your posts with the charts yesterday around 6 PM. My local coin club holiday party was going to start in an hour....so I printed 25 copies of each and (whew!) still got there in time for dinner.

No one there had anything like yours. But they all know that you're looking and a lot of them belong to other clubs so maybe some day you'll hear back from someone.

It would be cool to do a web page with photos of the error notes filling up the chart.

Thanks Buddy, about 3 hours before your post I had a serious medical issue that knocked me off my feet and couldn't answer your reply.

I had been wanting to chart serial number errors where the numbers are either inverted, or printed on the reverse side, and document a list of the error notes serial number, plate location, condition and owners name from the same 32 subject sheet.

Now that I have a better understanding of how serials are applied, along with the skip-numbering process, I feel confident one can find the other serial numbers printed on a error sheet and wanted to share this information...
Rest in Peace

Sorry to hear you had a health problem. I hope you're well now.

I think all coin collectors start looking a notes sooner or later -- if only to find those errors!

I suppose all you can do is keep trying to get the word out because I really think it would be really cool to get photos of them all lined up on a page just like the chart.
