They make them for collectors of assorted subjects, generally by private mints like Franklin etc. They also do rounds, I have rounds in assorted subject matters like one for the grandsons birthday, or the kids first Christmas, have some with clowns as in a birthday that can be engraved on the reverse. Like the above, they generally only bring a small premium above spot I get them out of the scrap/generic bar bins. I also have a miner on one and some trains the Almo. Yours was sold as a collectable for the stated games. an Olympic collector may be interested but they generally like the pins better. They all seem to fall under the name as art bars. new ones aren't as popular as they were in the 80's etc.

Backside of the bar in the lower right-hand corner I believe I see makers marks, which would help determine the producer of this bar. Just Google "Silver producers makers marks". That should be away to see if your bar is genuine or not. Me myself says it's real.

I'd say it's more than likely the real thing. I've seen plenty of 1 oz. silver bars just like this on ebay. Silvertowne might have been the maker, but that's just a guess. Like Rastatodd said, it's generally called an art bar. I classify it as generic silver. The price shouldn't be much more than a couple of dollars- at the most- above spot.

Can we get a pic of the side of the bar? Usually all types of these silver bars have parallel striations going up and down (when bar is laid flat). Coin blanks will look like that, and the bars do not normally have a third die as the collar. They get a light press and they move on because it's a mass-produced "art". A real art bar would have more attention to detail and not mass-produced. They'll get black but that's usually from plastic packaging. Ivan, as you might know, these are not engraved, they are die-struck.

If the purity of the silver is doubted, XRF testing is the best and easiest non destructive way to find out.

Have seen another of these art bars before, the official Lake Placcid symbol is right, the fox mascot is right. Back in 1980 silver was $49 /oz . It was during the silver rush of 79/80. It was either an attempt to cash in on the price of silver using the Olympics as a selling point or a fraud trying to make a quick score on the spike in silver of 1980.

Thanks to all of you, about your posts,i really appreciate your will to solve this mistery :)I don't have a professional magnifier,i have some cheap loupe, but on the back side,in the right down corner, the mint mark is like two mint marks, like vertical octogonal frames one next to other,in the left frame there is a small star in the center of the frame, like Arizona type of star, around the star od the left side of the star there is something like geographical relief. In the right octogonal frame it looks to me like an animal, somthing like chamois staying on two legs, but I'm not really sure about it.
