No silver Anthony dollars were made.I don't know what you mean by flurry. The eagles claw sounds like Struck Through Grease. No added value. John1

It is silver in color, and the mint marks can't tell if it is a P or D. also on the eagle claw are faded.

Quote: No silver Anthony dollars were made They all are clad coins. 1979 Check for "Far Date" or "Near Date." If an S mint mark there are certain varieties to look for. Let me check their is a good site for SBA varieties.

Here is a good site for information. http://www.smalldollars.com/Quote: how about the eagle claw being faded out and the branch that the eagle is carrying? Could be a couple of things, a weak strike, a worn die but no increase in value.imho

It is a 1979-S SBA business strike, the first S-mint circulating business strike since 1974 cents. The mintmark is a Type 1(filled) and is found on all business strikes while the clear Type II mintmark was used on some of the proof issues.

No added value because of that. It is normal in the minting process.

Sorry Davidjoe, but weak strikes, worn dies, or grease strike through's do not add any value to the coin.

Yes, the 1979-S Type 2 proof is worth ~$75 and the 1981-S Type 2 proof roughly double that. Keep in mind that it only applies to proofs as the business strikes only had one mintmark type. Fact of the day- the 1979 Type 2 mintmark is the same mintmark as the 1981 Type 1.

As discussed above, I think weak strikes are less desirable that strong strikes. There may be a group of people who collect weak strikes but I think they'd be limited. I think of coins as new products on the shelf. if they have "damage" or weak strikes, or otherwise it doesn't add to the value.
There are a lot of sites out there to learn about coins, depends on the specific topic.
