Hello all! I was browsing ebay last night and up pops a nice little coin lot from a seller who seems to be selling up lots of his detecting finds. Rarely do I really get excited over an auction however this one I did .(I have a real soft spot for Carausius coins.) I will let the picture speak for itself: I placed my bid earlier than what I usually do as I really didn't expect to win it with how much I was willing to pay however to my amazement I won! I questioned the seller about it beforehand and going by his description its the Providentia reverse. I initially was a little concerned about how authentic it was however the sellers background seems honest. I think I also spot another Carausius in the bunch too Edited by Coinage123 12/08/2013 5:47 pm

The coin looks fine to me, it has some nice detail.

I was bidding on that! I couldnt believe how high it went, but that is a great Carausius. I couldnt get the reverse type out of him...but Providentia is an alright one, not shockingly rare but at least its not Pax. Pity its not the jugate bust type. I'm not sure about the other one...but who knows, it might be a rare type. Ill say this htough...the guy knew to make the caruaius obvious.
I wouldnt touch the carausius, by the way. Perhaps wax it...and make sure to put up pictures!
(also, whilst checking the Provid listings, I saw that theres a Carausius issue with Britannia on it! Now that would be a pricey coin)

I just really hope the reverse is reasonable. I most probably over payed but I don't mind every now and again if its a coin I really like.(It will be my first Providentia.) Pictures will be put up as soon as I receive them There is a REALLY nice 'clasped hands' one on bid at the moment for just under the £600 mark. Its a bit too pricey for me though

The trouble with quite a few late antoninianii is the reverse is carelessly struck compared to the obverse. Also the reverse may not be in as good condition as the obverse, and that is why it is not shown.
Lets hope at least in this case, the reverse is acceptable.

Still waiting on this lot, hopefully might receive it in the next few days. In the mean time, withdrawal symptoms have lead to me buying more Carausius's.... Hello... .PNG) .PNG) Im seeing a Carausius top left(unsure of reverse type.) another Carausius second row, second from the left(Looks like a PAX AVGGG ) and to top it off an Allectus(galley) top row, third in from the left. I am still buzzing over this lot, I am outstanded that I wasn't outbid...

On another note, that clasped hands one I mentioned earlier sold for £4200!

Damn, I passed up on that lot. couldntbe bothered to wait for it to end. Wish id taken a closer look....I reckon its the rotated images in the listing that hurt its chances. That PAX AVGGG is a good one - you'd get a pretty penny for that, believe you me. Looks like further cleaning could make it eve nnicer.

To be honest I almost passed up on this lot too, I didn't even notice the Allectus until I had won it. I rotated the images and played around with the levels on CS3 which revealed a nice looking Galley(Its my first Allectus.) Any ideas as to the reverse type top left?

A good Lot, judging by the number of London mints, with some Trier thrown in, I guess this was an English metal detecting find(s).

I thought I topped the worst packaging a few months back with a unc coin wrapped in tin foil however I think this beats it. All the coins have been wrapped in sticky tape (sticky side on the coin)!! These coins don't have the strongest of patinas and I can see any attempt to remove it damaging anything fragile on the surface. Any suggestions?

Trim off as much as you can, then soak in water, distilled if possible. Agitate now and again until the sticky starts to come away. And keep your fingers crossed.
