Hi,

I recently purchased this Chinese Silver plaque - I need help with the hallmark. From what I can see it matches the 990 silver mark - 990足e"¶ - but not an expert on Chinese Silver Hallmarks. Also any info on the plaque would be great.

regards

The image on the front is the Chinese "God of Wealth" (Cai Shen) standing on a pile of money (coins, ingots, etc). His black tiger is by his side.

The hallmark on the reverse reads zu yin which translates as "fine silver".

"Fine silver", in this case, is a little deceiving. These "silver plaques" can be bought for as little as one dollar.

Some vendors admit that these plaques are actually made of "Tibetan silver".

Please be aware that ebay has a "buyer's advisory" stating that "Tibetan silver" may contain no silver at all.

Thanks - I will keep for the sheer beauty of the carving - Luckily I only paid about $15 for it!
