A coin store in my area is selling this for $5: I think I can't lose on this, but what do they sell for in Australia? It is still in hard plastic.

$7 I have actually bought a few for under face value which is funny given that you can take them to a bank and deposit them for $5

I took over 100 of them to the bank a couple weeks ago and got my $5 for em. Theyre worth very very little over face value and you will lose after fees usually.

Wouldve been a pain in the but posting them. They add up in weight pretty quick. Theyre all at the commbank at glenelg in adelaide. If people are lucky they may still be there and they may be willing to sell them to you.

I have got a few from banks. I would go get them if I was in the area.

All right, got it :)
Were they distributed for $5, or more?

I have a couple of the softball coins because my cousin was a member of team Canada (Sydney and Atlanta games). They are attractive coins, but there must have been a huge amount minted and hoarded.

Here it is: Well, to these Canadian eyes it's novel, and it is a nice design for $5. The whole series, though, might be a bit expensive...

I like them a lot. I had one that I picked up when the Olympics were happening (I wish I could remember what I paid, but I can't, although I'm sure it was too much), then found the second by accident on ebay and got if for face like you did... it was hard to pass it up because they are nice coins.

No offense nalaberong, the fives definitely have appeal. I have learnt that they never really became popular with Aust collectors. Let me know when you travel Down under, ill save one for u

Nice coin. And seeing the Queen doing gymnastics is not something you find everyday.

Does anyone know if the reserve bank destroys returned $5coins like they do with our discontinued paper notes and copper coins. I would love to know what kind of quantities they get every week, but would be heartbroken at the same time. Cheers

Banks are obligated to return "odd" coins like NCLT to the Mint; the Mint destroys anything like this they receive. It's paperwork and effort for them, so most banks don't mind if other people come in and take the stuff away from them before they have to fill out the paperwork. If you're worried about the excessive wanton destruction of coins, go into your local bank branches and find out what happens to NCLT at that particular branch. If no other collectors or dealers are currently taking it, you might be able to come to some kind of arrangement.

I actually like these crown sized coins along with any other crown , they feel great in hand and even I can see the entire coin without the need of magnification I have the entire set of these Olympic coins in an album :)
