Yes it looks like the gifts sets will each have a unique $1. This is a change from the past years where the sets each had a unique 25 cent coin.

Can somebody clarify what an Fu coin is? I am not an MC member and I am starting to imagine a coin of a fist with a middle finger sticking up.

"Fu" is a Chinese character meaning "Good Fortune." The coin in question presents 100 variations of the character on its reverse.

Silver plated, like 50c Titanic coin, IMO medal-like.

Good for the gift and I think will be popular in the Asian community.
Not bad, but specific. Will go good with different years $8 silver coins.

Expensive month for anyone collecting loons and silver dollars

I not sure if the annual 25 cent gift sets will be released this year as well

Logically, this not suppose to happen - to issue 2 gift sets a year with different "Special coin".

But for the Loonie collectors - will you, guys, take the 1 dollar coin out of the sets, or you will add the entire set in the collection?

If I buy it in a set, I keep it in the set.

For the silver proof version loonie & toonie, I have purchased those outside of the set from someone who has already broken the set to sell individually, although I did go back and buy the 1812 silver proof set later after the price dropped.

Strangely, the Mint seems to have broken their own rules and posted a pic of one of the new coins on their Facebook page. It's the learn to skate coin. I won't post the pic (you have to go to their page to see it) but the text is below.

"A new centennial is being celebrated with this coin, illustrating a scene that almost every Canadian has experienced in their lifetime â€" learning how to skate!

Congratulations Skate Canada / Patinage Canada on the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in Canada. The coin is only available as of January 14."
