I just installed all of the programs from the disk labelled "18.1".

- Digital Photo Professional
- EOS Utility
- Picture Style Editor
- ZoomBrowser EX
- PhotoStitch
- WFT-E1/E2/E3 Utility

Which of these programs will I be using the most, and what do they do?

You'll be using Zoom Browser. That's the app with the tethered shooting functions. Digital Photo Professional is the RAW image processor; PhotoStitch is for stitching panoramas and the like; WFT is the Wireless File Transfer utility; Picture Style Editor is a postprocessor with simple functions and EOS Utility is just a menu-driven source for all the above.

Thanks Dave.

I also received my EOS-M42 Adapter today. I'm not sure how all of these adapters will connect onto the camera, but this is my guess.

Canon XS --> EOS-M42 Adapter --> M42 Extension Tube(s) --> M42 Focusing Helicoid --> M42-M39 Adapter --> 75mm Lens

Did you ever buy the book?
Best one I know of is Numismatic Photography, 2nd Edition, by Mark Goodman.
I highly recommend it.

Not yet, I did look into it though. It's hard to find one online with reasonable shipping to Canada.

Mark Goodman is one of the very best at what he does, but I daresay he can't teach you much in that book which someone right here at CCF can't teach you for free.

I was just getting used to using the EOS Utility Software, and tethered shooting.

I was hoping I would have had all the components, for the set-up by now. Maybe next week.

These were taken with the XS and a Canon 18-55mm lens.

There's no other way to describe it, Canadian-Banknotes: those are ridiculously good for the lens you're using. It's well beyond my own capabilities with that lens; I wonder if you've a newer model which has a shorter focusing distance.

Thanks Dave,

This Lens came standard with the Canon Rebel XTi. It's the EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 II.

How far are you from the subject coin? This lens has a minimum focusing distance of about 10". I'm beginning to think I never got its' best when I was playing with one.
