has anyone seen this before? 2 1932 nickels with obviously different fonts being used for 'five cents'. you can really see it between the C and E where on the wider font there is less space between the letters. it is the wider font that is certainly rarer. I also have a 1927 with the wider font as well. any comments?

It looks like the coin with the "wider fonts" has sustained more wear -- IMHO it looks like the letters are wider due to more contact with other coins, etc, flattening out the metal. Do your 1927's have equal wear, or better yet, have little wear at all? Pictures would help out in this case.

Unless there are "style" differences, I am assuming the cause is wear (coin, die, or both).

Concave and flat fields exist on 1932 nickels
