Now and then I find something in a pawn shop. One of the first coin shops I went to was in a pawn shop, so at one time I got some nice fairly graded coins. But recently it has been a matter of sorting through damaged/polished/overpriced stuff. The last coin I got in a pawn shop was a common O Morgan in XF/AU, sorting through their silver box. Nothing special, but not marked up much above melt.

An old college friend owns 4 Pawn Shops. They buy any sort of gold, but don't buy silver in any form, or any type of coins. He says the profit margin isn't big enough for him to fool with. He also says that they almost never see coins anyway, although they see silver bullion & scrap fairly regularly. Based on the money this guy is making I have to believe he knows what he's talking about.

Well just pulled out the old phone book. We have 25+ pawn shops listed for my area. One even advertises that they buy scrap gold & coins. So guess I'll get some cash and just go play hit & miss. Will let you know how I do.

I used to have a pawn shop that I dealt with regularly in my old hometown ,, they would call me if any coins were coming up on the shelves ,, I was able to buy or trade for them .

Not made it out yet Amazon99 as the wife is working weekends. So instead I've been working on cement a relationship with a local bank which has paid off so far. They have held for me 27 Eisenhower dollars which you just don't find in circulation. They also had 5 rolls of 1/2 one day and 8.50 in 1/2s the next which resulted in 3 40% silvers. Just finished doing some roll searches and found a silver quarter, silver dime, and a few fillers for my albums. The teller is also checking to see if they can order some boxes of halfs for me.

Did call around and found 4 shops have some coins. So going to visit the flea market and those 4 shops in two weeks when wife can stay home with the kids.

At one of the flea markets I frequent one of the regular sellers vanished. I asked today what happened to him and found out he was arrested. It appears he was a partner in a pawn shop and the stuff they were selling at the flea market was basically from there. As soon as he gets out I think I'll ask him for any coins.

just carl,
not to smear anyones character and please correct me if I am wrong, but did it occur to you that he may have been arrested because the pawn shop he was associated with was purchasing stolen mechandise off the books and then funneling it through the flea market to keep it out of the shop?
