I doubt they'll remove them.

Unless they're looking to free up warehouse space in the Fed (for what?), there is no reason for them to actually remove them from circulation. Coin have a natural lifespan of about 10-120 years (depending on durability, public acceptance, and public perception as valuable), and the US has a history of letting every coin run its course... of course with the exception of gold in 1933. Some of the older members here remember the days when it was not unheard of to see Seated Liberty coinage and the oddball denominations show up in circulation from time to time. The production of the coins is already a sunk cost. Unless they are looking to waste taxpayer money, it's best to just leave the coins where they are. Slowly but surely the Anthony dollar will go extinct on its own.

Probably a moot point discussing what the Fed will, can, or not do. As said, this bill has little chance of passing. For the record, I agree and feel that the SBA removal requirement is ludicrous and unnecessary. What little profit they realize from selling to dealer/collectors is more than lost in reclamation costs.

some salesperson gave me a 'golden' quarter as a dollar.
Those 'golden' quarters have caused way too much confusion. it should be against the law.

I agree with all the people who offered reasons they believe that the mint won't take the time or trouble to remove them.

Is there an echo in here?
The only way any dollar coin will catch on is to stop production of the $1 bill. Until then, they will all be flops. $1 bills should have stopped being made 20 years ago IMO.

Yes it would be a colossal waste of money. Yes, I could see it happening. After all, this is the US government we are talking about.

Didn't know those were in circulation. Never see them anywhere.

Quote: The current COINS act states SBAs will be remove from circulation, but will be offered to collectors/dealers And what would collectors/dealers want with a BILLION SBA dollars? Sure I'll take them off their hands, at 50 cents each. And what would I do with them? Take them to the bank of course. :)

After reclamation, they should artificially tone them (golden) and re-release.

Quote: After reclamation, they should artificially tone them (golden) and re-release. This is what I have been saying like, forever. But I wonder if it would confuse the visually impaired, having a dollar coin with a smooth edge (original Sac) a coin with words and stars etched into the edge (current Native American, and President dollars) and reeded edge dollar coins (gold toned SBAs)

I think I saw this in the COINS act also. First, I don't think the Fed will withdraw the SBA dollars. It is not worth the hassle. Second, I think the part about selling the coins to collectors is a joke. Unless there is a mass marketer interested in these, I don't think even collectors want to buy 1 billion SBA dollars (or hundreds of millions). I certainly don't. Let them die a slow death. But I for one am certainly in favor of the COINS act (but I doubt it will happen). Lets keep spending those dollars.
