Do you think it's an AU55?

I'm leaning closer to an AU-58.

The new master dies prepared for 1921 are extremely difficult to evaluate in AU/MS condition - brand-new coins can look circulated and barely-worn coins are tough to differentiate because the design looks "circulated". Your images are simply tremendous illustrations of the features one would look for in-hand regarding circulation. You've highlighted the slight change in surface finish which handling imparts to this design.

I'm calling it AU55 because of the wear actually beginning to erode the top edges of the wings. It's my contention that it is literally impossible to call a 1921 "AU58" based on images alone.

I am still having a hard time getting an accurate representation of the luster. It either looks too shiny or kind of washed out, like this one, which looks much nicer in hand.

That's why the two angles. I don't see how you can get a good reading of a coin with only a straight on shot.
