A month ago I purchased around 200 pennies for about $25, included within were 10 no dot 1920 pennies of various grades. I was pretty happy with that.

All 3 coins appear to have Curved Base Lettering. ALL CBLs are Dot Below, as are most Flat Based Lettering pennies of 1920. If you found 10 pennies dated 1920 in a lot then chances are 5 are CBL and the 5 FBL are mostly Dot Belows or Dot Aboves, perhaps 1 is a No Dot. I buy 500-1000 pennies/year dated 1920 and CBLs are 50-60% of them, lots from Victoria are more like 70%+ and lots from NSW have plenty of Dot Aboves.

Hi, nealeffendi. So there are two type's of lettering, Flat & Curved Style's. So the 1920 No Dot Penny has, The Flat Based Lettering on it? Thank's for the Lesson but sad now that they are 1920 Dot Penny's with No Dot's. Cheer's jpl..

Hi Lincoln and jpl The No Dot is only found with FBL, same with Double Dot, Dot Over Top,Dot over Bottom and the 2 English obverses. Dot Below are both CBL and FBL. Don't be surprised if you cannot see a dot on a Dot Below as the dot is often weak or worn away, but as the die was punched with a dot it is still a Dot Below coin. Only a handful of dies are genuine probable No Dots, even that is not 100% certain as it may turn out that some of those are Dot Below with an extremely weak dot that might only be detected on high grade early strikes.

So if the detail of the coin is pretty good and no dot is visable and it has FBL, it may very well be a no dot? Sounds like there is no real way of knowing.

Merry Christmas Lincoln. Santa only gives to good little kids. I got a PCGS MS66 1943 threepence on Christmas eve (but I purchased that one).
