I had seen on another thread a couple weeks ago, that people have been using wine glasses as light diffusers. Has anyone else ever tried this method?

It seems like it works quite well!

It would probably be easier to use one of these glasses, so it doesn't take up so much space, vertically.

Perhaps one sided lighting only in this case, should have been used.
I can't seem to get incuse imagery out of my head.

I did something similar but a lot cruder. My good camera with the macro lens died. I tried using a point & shoot but my hand wasn't steady enough to satisfy me. I placed the coin at the bottom of a tall drinking glass next to a desk light and laid the camera on top of the glass. It could have been better if I'd played with the lighting, but it made a good enough tripod to get a post-able image. Now I know what country the coins are from.

Interesting.
Not my style.
But it's hard to argue with success.
If the image is a true representation of the item, particularly color, then go with it.
