Was Dolly Madison the first First-Lady to be honored in coin with her 1999 commemoratives?

Yes, she was the first presidential wife to appear on U.S. coinage. The Dolley Madison Commemorative is also the only one designed, not by the mint or a mint employee, but by a for profit company. Tiffany & co.

Agreed that Dolly was the inital first lady so honored ... but by no means the first woman to appear on a USA coin.

Queen Isabella of Spain beat Dolly by 106 years .... she appears on the obverse of the 1893 dated Columbian Exposition Quarter Dollar ... commonly refered to as the 'Isabella Quarter".

Nickelsearcher - Outside of the Mint's "First Spouse" series, which other first spouse has been honored on a US coin?

With Dolley's 1990 commem's and her 2007 First Spouse $10 gold coin, I think she is the first spouse on the the most US coins.

As far as I know, outside of the first spouse coins, no other first lady has appeared on coinage. Martha Washington however was the first and only first lady to appear on currency appearing on $1 silver certificates in 1886
