Today's finds:

Norway 10 øre 1948 with repunched 4:

This one's more dramatic: Norway 5 øre 1941/41

In 1873, Sweden used a large "73" on the 1 öre dies. This particular coin has an "ear" on the ball of the 3--repunched or a die chip?

DV,

I often use

http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/wo...coinid=94491 ,

for example, as a reference when searching for errors and varieties that foreign (non-US) coins may exhibit.

One can notice that w/r/t the 1948 10 ore coin from Norway NGC apparently does not currently document this particular variety that you personally found and photographed.

Does this fact imply that you have discovered a newly discovered variety?

Also would it be advisable for you or anyone finding themselves in a similar situation to email these types of photos and related commentaries to NGC to obtain an official NGC listing having a related monetary value also determined by NGC?

I am just curious to know what the currently accepted protocol is for documentation and pricing of these types of non-standard foreign coins etc.

B/t/w pretty cool find.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

For some reason, NGC's World Coin Price Guide doesn't list any date varieties for Norway--although they do list Sweden overdates. So I have a better resource for Norway varieties, including repunched dates. You can find it here. You might also be interested in this possible overdate discovery. Thanks Mpd!

Hi!

I know this is an old topic, but I just want to give you a couple of reasons why NCC doesn't note overdates:
1. We do not have any complete description of varieties on norwegian coins. The reason for this is, that collectors in Norway doesn't really care about them. And since nobody cares about them, nobody cares to make a good description, with prices, on what exist and what doesn't.

There is ALOT of different overstrikes, repunching, diedoubling etc.
Just here the other day I found an unkown one, 2 ore 1918 with small date.

So, these varietes you are showing, are infact known, but not recorded or something like that.

Best regards

Alex (from Norway)

Hi Alex! Thanks for your observations on Norwegian date varieties.
In fact, someone from Norway made the same comment--it's as you say, a lack of collector interest in Norway.
This seems to be quite different from overdate collecting in Sweden, which lists them in books and auction catalogues. So it's hard to find info on Norway overdates, although I have found this site.

Welcome to CCF!

here's the proof that there's LOTS of unknown overdates.
Just found another one, while photographing.
50 ore 1918/8 or 1918/6, hard to tell.
