To me Gem is solid MS65. The first is solid 65 on the obverse and the chatter on the reverse shouldn't hold it back. The second looks MS64ish on the obverse.

Can you post brighter pictures of the first 81-S?

PL and AU are not mutually exclusive. Neither of these are PL, nor are they AU. Both Mint State, IMO. Neither are remotely "Gem."

Ssuperdave I meant to put MS or AU in the title. But if gem is ms 65 and defined by full luster and no distracting marks can you tell me where coin 1 falls short?

Anyone? Bueller? I'm only concerned because I have a period where I can return them but I can't tell if the third coin obverse is whizzed below the bust and if the other two are good problem free coins. Any help is appreciated now that there are new pics up :)

I don't see anything which really bothers me about any of them. They're all nice Mint State coins, but you can't plan on them earning a PL designation. Both faces need equal reflectivity, and your last image looks to indicate "almost, but not quite there."
This is the level of quality expected of 1881-S. They are very common at this quality. It's about the cheapest Morgan in MS65, not quite worth $150.

Top one certainly could be a 65, both are at least 64 with great luster and whiteness. I hate the terms that are used in Numismatics such as Gem, Choice, Choice Gem, etc. as they are used somewhat differently by every seller. These are definitely not sliders - look at the hair lines above the ear and the Eagle's breast feathers. Keepers if you want "Gems."

Looking at the lower pics, I'd say the two first ones are MS64, possibly +. The third one looks more like a 63.
I don't think any of them makes PL or 65.

with Supgog, from the new photos 64, 64, 63, I don't see an 65 in the first one. And as SsDd said I don't see that one making PL, though close. Maybe if it were another year/mint but as he said the 1881-S's were extremely well struck and are known for and quite common with amazing quality and PL apperences. Due to this the TPG'ers are quite tough on these and they really need to be superb to get higher grades.
