Holiday greetings! I have a question about the listing descriptions I see on ebay for Canadian coins. For example, for a 2008 Canadian one cent piece it is listed as L or a for 2003 W or a 2006 W. Can anyone provide an explanation of what these letters mean and possibly a link to a webpage explaining them.

Thanks!

The L is refering to the RCM mint Logo under the obverse portrait which was introduced in 2003. Not that they have to worry about it any more since the penny is gone, but that is their old logo which was recently replaced with the one at http://www.mint.ca

The W is a mintmark meaning that the coin was struck in the Winnipeg facility. These coins with the W were not intended for circulation.
