it does have slight grain lines on the obverse.they ate very light lines.i would say it does have potential in about 20 years if you leave it in the sun.what does the reverse look like ?

i am not an authority here, but I do not think that aging, or exposure to sunlight create the "woodie". I believe it is the metal alloy mixture. I am always willing to learn - if age and sunlight enhances the wood grain effect, that would be interesting - to me.

Possibly, but not enough definition so that people will say "Oooooooo" when you show it to them.

hi Spud,
a woody is a one cent piece with imperfect alloying, making it appear wood-grained.thats what I read in some place.

Looks like a woody, although subtle, to me. Is the pattern evident on the reverse too?

Without a doubt it's a woodie. Regardless of the degree of contrast. I'm actually doing a study right now on woodies, as it is a very miss-understood variety. I'm still working on the LWC right now as I have been going through 5k count bags of wheats; and am approaching the 500k mark. I have been going through them year by year and finding the percentages of each year and mintmark with Woodgraining. The memorials do appear, right now, to be a bit harder to find. So I would keep your coin. There is a slight upsurge in interest in Woodies and some people are beginning to build sets. I would keep yours. Good find!
