A tale of idiocy; having sent a load of polymer notes to ICCS without even realising it I set out to get my own stash for the long haul.

I went to the post office to pick up $300 worth of the little beauties having phoned up to make sure they had them in. Looked pretty sharp at the counter and paid for them. Got them home and in the cold light of day, saw they had folds and dreadful scratches on the transparent section....took them back and lost about $50 on the transaction....hence the idiocy.

Then marched my two small kids round 7 banks to be told they didn't know what a brick was....and they got their currency from travelex and didn't know what I was talking about. My kids kept saying 'that was quick Daddy.'

Back home safe to lick my wounds....having to stick to e-bay to buy singles and doubles....having a Ph.D clearly doesn't help in all respects.

Australia has had circulating polymer notes since 1988.
You may say that we are pretty familiar with them.
One thing that ruins a polymer note for a collector is a crease. They are impossible to remove, or even to restore by much.

Glad to see Canada go to polymer. The $1 and $2 coins really made the $5 note circulate much more and they got really ratty over there. Multiple times I have seen folks over there dump change at a restaurant or such with cashiers to get notes. I have been guilty of it as well.
