So Iv'e recently purchased a Morgan dollar from 1890. It's in fair condition, and passes the tests like so: -Now, my scale is not a coin scale, and rounds grams to having no decimal point, so I converted the weight of a Morgan(26.73g) to ounces, which comes in at 0.94287, and when I weigh it, it comes in at 0.95oz, which is about 26.78g in the least. Tell me if this is a reasonable margin of error. -It IS silver, as it passes my favourite silver test, the ice cube test. Also has the silver "ring". -Its diameter is about 37.9 mm, when it should be 38.1, tell me if this is ok. Pics: So tell me what you think! Edited by shoopdawhoop100 12/27/2013 12:17 pm

Slight variations of weight/diameter are expected in circulated Morgan dollars. Is your scale accurate? Is the coin attracted to a magnet? Based on the images the coin looks genuine, although the color is a bit odd.

It isn't attracted to a magnet. You may be right about the scale, as it's meant for cooking. The colour is due to bad lighting and an odd angle. Here is some better pictures.

If it passes all of those tests, it's most likely genuine.

Looks genuine, but polished. Hope you didn't pay a ton of money for it.

The coin looks less shiny than in the picture. Once again, I`m not very good at taking pictures from a good angle. Besides, even if it is polished a bit I don`t mind, I just want to know if it`s real.

The date looks good to me. The chinese counterfeits tend to be a bit "cartoonish" and this one is not.
