I couldnt believe what I was reading when I read this story about someone donating two $20 Liberty gold pieces into a church collection plate !

I wonder if it was one of our memebers here ?

Every year we read about this type of donation to the, "Salvation Kettle" here in the US. There was a recent clip on the local TV station that showed an owner of the LCS buying a Gold Krugerrand. Found in the "Kettle".
He paid spot for it. ( Those in the know, it was Don, Flying Eagle)

"Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."

A few years ago I was at a coin/jewelry shop I frequent when a gentleman came in with a gold Krugerrand that had come in through a donation kettle.

I watched quietly as the dealer looked at it and then made his offer to buy it. I don't recall the price, but I am confident the dealer was more than fair.

I enjoy reading or hearing stories like this.
