So I got a 1992 Silver Proof Set for Christmas, because I'm trying to complete my proof set collection that I've been working on this past year, and the case is broken. The person who purchased it for me didn't realize it and told me they were sorry and that they'd buy me a new one, and I get to keep this one. So now, I have a broken 1992 Silver Proof Set. My question is, should I crack the case and send the coins off to NGC or PCGS to get graded, or leave it as is? Ill post pics below.

I wouldnt send them for grading personally. Chasing modern 70s is usually a losing game in small batches. Even if they did get the 70 enough of them sell on ebay for basically the grading price that the upside is very small. Thats especially true if those would be the only coins you would be sending. If you check ebay or ask around you could probably find a replacement shell for it

I would just add them to your proof collection if it is in a album or something similar.

I would crack them out, put them in capsules/2X2's and sell them as album fillers. There are many people out there filling up Dansco and Whitman P,D&S albums.

I didn't know they sell replacement shells for these. I might just break them loose and put them in capsules and hold them for my own collection.

If you want a replacement shell, I've got a few hanging around. Shoot me your address and I'll be happy to send you one.

makes me wonder now if the person had switched the silver coins out, and that's why the case is cracked...

If you can get another case for a reasonable cost, that is plenty good enough.
I wouldn't bother having TPGrading for ANY modern coin that had been specially struck for collectors for non circulation, especially after about 1980.
Not my advice, but that found in ch.5: 'Don't be Fooled by High Grades' (2pgs), of the 2012 edn. of the U.S. Coin Digest. (Krause)
I's just that I happen to totally agree with that advice.

Colles: This is by obvious appearance an off quality proof set. Nobody wants to buy it as a set. The good news is that it is the packaging that makes it off quality (rather than say the cent being corroded or a spot on the half dollar) so break the set up into proof singles and put them in your series sets or sell trade them for something else you want.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do I think. Just break them up and put them into sets.
