So I have heard that the tip of the bust on the 1964 L Indian Head is pointed like in the years that follow while the regular 1964 has more of a rounded tip like in the years before. Now obviously the ware on my coin is too great to clearly see the L but the tip of the coin in question looks to be pointed but that could just be my eyes showing me what I want to see. So what do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure you mean 1864 and 1865. That one looks like it could definitely be an "L" cent. The "1" on 1864 is just under the tip of the bust, as opposed to the non "L" cent, where the "1" is further to the right.

Do you (or anyone) know of any other ways to tell? I would like to be at least 75% sure I have the "L" before I pop it in my book.

My understanding is that if it is the bronze 1864 cent, with the pointed bust, and the "1" is under the tip of the bust and not set back like on the rounded bust 1864, it's an "L" cent. BUT, I have heard something about the feathers in the headband also giving a clue. Not sure about those feathers, but if someone gave me your cent in question, I would put it under the "L" in my book. By all means though, let's see what others think before putting the stamp of approval on this one. After all, I could be completely wrong (and if I am, I will need a replacement cent too!)
