How can I tell from pictures, what do I look for?

I understand the meaning, just putting it into practice I find harder

I don't think you can ever be sure from pictures.

It's easy to take a photo of a proof so that it looks like a non-proof BU coin, and harder but possible to make a BU look like a proof.

Photos of impaired proofs frequently look like circulation issues.

I would normally look for uniformity of a glossy or mirror finish in the field.

This does not look like a proof to me.

I agree with Pertinax and Milou - it can be tricky telling a proof from a non-proof gold coin, but to me this looks like a normal circulation strike.

Beautiful coin though, mashisback!
