MS-64.
It really is a beautiful coin and the die cracks and clashes are phenomenal!

Thanks everyone, glad you like it! It's a really nice coin in hand, just beautiful. I'm very happy with it, as it's my first uncirculated 3CN.

You might as well stop at one; I don't see you topping it.

Great color. Shes a beauty and any collector would love to have it. Weak strike reverse. MS65

Update: I had sent this coin to NGC...... and it came back only MS63. Very disappointed, I disagree with that grading.

Hmm, I must have missed the thread and was going to post the same grade NGC ended up giving it MS63. The coin is nice, but key date and tough in higher grades, making this a condition census coin. The luster looks average as does the strike, if struck up a touch more on the reverse bands, I'd go MS64. Still a very nice example of a tougher 3CN IMO. A plus grade or MS64 would not have surprised me either.

It was just tough seeing this compared to other ones that graded 63. I can't capture luster well in pics, this one actually has great luster in hand. This 3CN was also struck with the same die pairing as mine, and yet it had no penalty for its weak reverse. I'm not saying mine is a 66, but to get a 63 and not a 64 because of the reverse being weak is nonsense: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...38&lotNo=357Also seeing on Heritage that the last MS65 1875 that sold was a proof mislabeled as a business strike really shows the inconsistency.

Crack it out and re-submit it. That's what they're banking on. There's no way that's only 63.

I am still not sure I agree with their 63 grade. But if I had to put myself in their shoes, my best guess would be that the "larger" marks on the neck, cheek close to mouth, eye, chin and neck, the additional smaller dings on the high points of the face and hair as well as the hit above the bow on the reverse are what kept it from 64 or 63+ in their eyes.

Harsh, and I don't agree with it. However, I just spent some time in the Heritage archives looking at similar coins, and my conclusion was that the TPG's are all over the map with 3CN's. No rhyme nor reason to their grades, no consistency. I saw 65's that looked like 63's, 63's that looked like 66's, and a few that looked like Proofs in Business Strike slabs.

Those two marks on the neck are die markers, even the highest graded ones have them. I'm not 100% sure what the mark near the eye is, but there's definitely a hit at the bow. I still strongly disagree with it being a 63 though. I may re-submit it in the future, but in the mean time I'll just crack it out and keep it in my collection.
