I took this into my local coin shop today, figuring that since the line was raised above the coin's surface that I had an error coin on my hands! Now what the man there said was that he suspected that a mint worker might've accidentally gouged the die of the coins, causing the raised strip down the center.

What do you think, CCF?

It is just one big post-mint scratch. Die gouges affect the fields are are very rarely found on top of the devices. On a die, the fields are the highest point while the design is sunk into the die. Deep scratches on a coin will frequently cause vertical displacement of the metal(think of it as digging a ditch with mounds of shoveled dirt on both sides).
