In any case it is well worth the small price to do this rather than all the other attempts to figure it all out that may prove nothing. You would need a sensitive scale and even then possibly it would cost about the same and no real proof of what you have. Let the experts do it for a small amount of money.
When it comes to such a possibly valueable coin, it is difficult to trust anyone. If for instance you took it to a coin dealer, how would you know you'ld get that one back? How could you prove you even handed it to him? And the more you play around with it, the more chances there are of loss or damage. As I said it is simple to just check out the PCGS or NGC web sites.
