Heres that lot. Much nicer in the picture than in hand, but its still very good for the price.

all the greeks are from the Celtic Iberian city of Castulo. Very good nick, one of them is double struck. The really nice one is oging into a special DW bath, it will be treated well.

The Claudius is minerva, the dirt is protecting a very vert porous surface - so porous that the lettering isn't legible on it, so thats staying as is. The romans are quite nice, but not types I'm after, so they've gone into my Uncleaned bin.

The castulo coins are pretty nice. I'm going to keep one of them, havent decided which (theres 1 with a legend, 1 which is high grade and centered and one other which is double struck, I'm working on the IDs).

Theres 1 mystery coin...bottom right, itlooks like Alexandria with elephant head dress.

I have a lump of rust very similar, the ones I have came from a 10 pound bulk load, I got 16 of them too, from the look I'd say we both shop at the same places, I know I have the one on second row in the middle with the VI obv and III rev on it, also have the one that is hexagonal (far left 3rd row) it seems like a different minting process, I had seen on Time Team that some older coins were made from strips of metal, you would cut a V off the end then cut the next one down at a V to make it round-ish

I never took the time to research them. Mine all seem to be copper/bronze

I'll try to get pics but mine are as bad or worse than yours, I will book mark this thread thou because I am as curious about my weirdies as you are.

Thanks for the post and the great pic!

4th from the left, top row:
Spain, Castulo, 2nd to 1st C. BC

Obv: Male head right; NC behind.
Rev: Bull standing right; crescent above

Ref: SNG BM 1264ff, CNH 15

Far left, 3rd row:
Spain. Castulo. Circa 50 BC. Æ 20(ish)mm. Diademed male head right; /
Bull standing right; (crescent) above. (this weight being a quadrans, rare)

Middle, top row:
Unlisted. The legend doesn't match any on wildwinds...it actually reads IVL - perhaps this is a portrait of Caesar! This certainly does look like a bust of Augustus from the provinces. Now...who do I ask about this?

2nd from the left, top row:
Needs cleaning. Looks a bitlike a sphinx, but is probably a bull. Probably the standard Castulo semis.

EDIT: You've got these too? It seems they must be quite common in the area, but they dont come onto ebay very often. the hexagonal one is indeed cut from a sheet - lazy barbarians...
