I have to admit I am not much of a penny man, but I needed a good penny for my 7070. So I went found a fellow that had a Dansco penny book, which is almost complete with the 09S VDB in similar condition as the one I got below (he wants $3200 for it and $700 for the 22 Plain in VG). He also has a PR62 1877 SL $1! Sorry I got sidetracked...

But anyway, it was the prettiest bunch of old cents I have seen. So we got to talking and I told him I needed a good penny for my Type set so he sold this 31S to me along with a 1942 P Silver Proof Nickel for $240. I think I did ok.

Being that I love raw coins and put my best ones in my Dansco...I would like have some idea of the grade of them...so if you all could be so kind to offer up your grade on this cent I would appreciate it.

The Penny:

1931-S-Cent/1942-P-Proof-Nickel-Grade-Please!

1931-S-Cent/1942-P-Proof-Nickel-Grade-Please!

And the Nickel (hard not to get the lights or camera in the pix LOL):

1931-S-Cent/1942-P-Proof-Nickel-Grade-Please!

Thanks Mike! I really value the input!

I chose to put AU and better in my book. I am not really doing anything but waiting on the perfect coin and the best I can afford. I save up and thank goodness most dealers around me have 90 day lay-away so I don't have to walk in with a fist full of $ or a credit card. One dealer will allow me to "bank" my funds and is very accepting of trading items towards the more expensive items. I refuse to use a credit card since coins aren't appreciating as quickly as my credit card interest!

The penny Ms-64 at first look. But there looks to be a little wear on lincolns cheek and beard.MS-63RB.As for the nickel, not so good at grading proofs, my guess PR-66/67.
