Hello all! I'm new here. I decided to sign up to help figure out some coins I've unearthed in my family.

Firstly, we've 2 gold spanish coins dated 1861 & 1864, with the Spanish coat-of-arms on one side, and Isabela's face on the other. Face value of each: 1 Peso. I've been googling but nothing comes up for these 2 dates. How can I find out the value of these coins? Sorry but I still don't have an image to upload.

Hi Chimpster.
Welcome to the Forum.
I have tried to find your coins in my catalog of world coins.
Are you sure the face value is "One Peso"? The Spanish coins were call "Real" or "Reales" at that time 1861-1864. But the one Real was made of Silver. The 20 & 40 & 100 Reales were made of gold. In 1865 the Spanish coinage changed to "Escudos".
If it is a Peso it may not be Spanish.

Peso Denomination were used in
Argentina
Bolivia
Cambodia
Chile
Colombia
Costa Rica
Cuba
Dominican Republic
El Salvador
Guatemala
Guinea Bissau
Honduras
Mexico
Netherlands Antilles
Nicaragua
Paraguay
Peru
Phillippines....********
Puerto Rico
Uruguay
Venezuela

OK the Phillipines have what you are discribing
1861 mintage 237,000 in Fine $45, Very fine $65, XF $90 UNCIRCULATED $225.
1864 mintage 274,000 in Fine $45, Very fine $65, XF $90 UNCIRCULATED $225.
These prices are from a 1988 catalog so the price would have changed and so would the value of GOLD.
Weight of coin and how much of that is gold. 1.6915g .875 Gold .0476 oz AGW

I hope this helps you find the current information on the coins. Someone here may have a more up to date book.
Rest in Peace
