Just painful. The coin shows as having sold for less than the $8 price, but someone still paid at least $5 S&H for this monstrosity. Near as I can tell, it's just a rotted out Zincoln. Maybe a fountain coin. Sold as a ragged clip planchet.
Yuck!

Maybe this...

... is why "some" ebay sellers post ridiculous items at ridiculous prices... they don't want to spend the time and effort to learn (as they should), but they don't want to sell something that is potentially valuable for a few pennies or dollars because they'll feel like a fool.

Agreed, that's one of the "most" which are out right rip off con artists. That's why I said maybe "some" in my previous post.

Only $1200: a BU 1954-S nickel (that was possibly destroyed by a flamethrower):

I think I saw a similar one in a Tik Tok video, so it's probably legit.

Brandmeister - some of his other listings are hilarious too. A badly damaged 1965 quarter described as an error coin and two other obviously clad 1965 quarters described as 'silver'. Sadly if you are a genuine collector of modern US error coins, you have to trudge through lots of rubbish! I sometimes wish ebay would charge, say $5 upfront for anyone listing a coin for over $10! (Maybe refunding it if the coin actually sells).

I kind of like the rubbish. I always think of Han Solo and his friends in the Death Star trash compactor, wading through the filthy water and debris. If everything on ebay were correctly labeled and reasonably priced (i.e. low effort and transparent), then the guys with the real money would always win. The bargain hunters would get nothing but scraps.

NumisRob, that seller's description of the "1965 quarter no mint mark error Multiple Error" states that is proof in addition to silver: 166706878689
