silver dollars have to be my favorite coins. the weight, the size, the shine and especially the sound if accidentally dropped before the cursing starts.
i think most of these have been polished by me at some point.i know for sure I polished the 39,49,58 and 64 as they were black when I got them. the 53 and 61 however are still in excellent shape and have not been polished. the scan does not do the 61 justice!

Rule one of coin collecting, dirty is sometimes better... in other words (please excuse the shout)

NEVER CLEAN A COIN!!!!!!!

Great looking thou they may be a cleaned "Pretty" coin with the same wear as a "dirty" coin that shows it's age (the black tells you there is silver in them) is much more desirable.

I love silver dollars too, I just drooled over my Morgan's a few hours ago the grime on coins is called it's patina, some are black and dingy other can get a beautiful rainbow hue which is amongst the most prized and only comes with age.

to sum up, great stuff but even rubbing it in your shirt to get the finger prints off is almost a no-no.

I am obsessed with silver dollars as my avatar points out, I only need the 1948 and than its on to the varieties.
Your 1953 appears to be a NSF.
Nice set, I'm glad to see another canadian dollar collector here.
Sure there are others but some times it gets lonely:-)
Feel free to call me Will.

Yeah it's funny the stupid things you do as a kid, I've cleaned my share of pennies as a kid too. My parents didn't let me touch the dollars thou, I'm happy to say.

I was not trying to be mean to you just wanted to get the point across that cleaning in not only frowned upon but outright hated by some.

Still very beautiful thanks for sharing

If you really value these coins then take them out of that awful PVC page and use 2x2's or saflips then store them in NON PVC pages.
I can guarantee that over a period of time all these coins will become green ,sticky and just plain Nasty if left in that page.
I ruined some particularly nice coins using that system of storage.
A nice set of Dollars by the way

Nice collection c300.
I agree with the way you describe dollar coins.
And yes I did some polishing too before I knew better, but when your a kid things seem better when they shine.

these folders will ruin the coins? their coming right out tonight!

i have some of the 2X2 coin holders but am out of the pages to put them in. I rarely get to go to coin shops either since they are too far away for me to walk or bike.

Lovely coins.......dollars have a particular soft spot in my collection too. I have duplicates for most years.......and have a real hard time passing up good deals on more when I come across them lol. I'll post some pics in a couple days!
