Does anyone have any information on these types of medals? It's large and heavy (I don't have the dimensions) and is marked Rideau Sterling on the bottom edge and has the number 696 on the top edge. The face is starting to spot.

Doesn't the GG of C have an awards ceremony each year where they pass out medals to assorted Canadians for being outstanding in their fields.I remember seeing one a program on the awards show a couple of years ago when a famous Canadian women was/is GG of C. watched the show on CBET TV channel 9 in Windsor/Detroit.
