This coin is graded by a 100% feedback seller. Sorry the pics are so far away, but they are not mine. Thoughts please? V nickel /a .jpg" border="0" style='cursor:default' onClick='doimage(this, event)'> V nickel /a rev.jpg" border="0" style='cursor:default' onClick='doimage(this, event)'>

I'd bid that one as a fairly well-struck AU50+. I'm not seeing enough detail in the wreath or the hair to go any higher.

It depends if there's any luster in it. Plus, I'd ask the seller if there are any hairlines on it (to indicate cleaning) which these types of photos wouldn't show.

I'm going to call it a solid EF40. The hair is fairly flat from the forehead to the cheek. It's tough to tell from these pictures but there is not a great deal of detail visible on the corn ears. To get an AU grade you would need more detail in the hair and on the wreath. Mike

When I bid on coins that I can't see too well, I bid a grade or two what I think it's worth. That way, I have some wiggle room if it isn't the grade as to what the seller said it was or I thought it was. Edit: Forgot to give it a grade. I would say it's an AU. I think I see some wear on the hair right above her eye, but that might just be the picture and not the coin.

Well, I got an return email from the seller. Let me start by saying that his listing is a MS63. Having said that, he informed me that this is the best his scanner can do. He told me there is full luster, and no evidence of previous cleaning and/or hairlines. He absolutely believes it to be "lustrous BU". His price is about $10 over RedBook. Most of his other items are in slabs(all top tier), and the raw coins he has seem very nice. Just not sure I want to take the leap of faith. Although he does have a solid return policy, which he reminded me of also. In reading his reply, it was well worded/educated, so at first glance, I think this to be an upstanding guy. I also told him he may want to add a digital camera to his stall as he will be able to accomodate requests such as this and potentially have some repeat buyers... I think I may steer clear for now though...Thanks all.

The details that are visible appear sharp and well struck, both front and back. I see nothing that would automatically keep the coin from grading MS 63...but I also see nothing that would absolutely put the coin any higher than AU 50. It all depends on the details not seen in the photos. What is particularly disappointing is the lack of apparent luster...probably just the result of scanning the coin, but...
If there's a good money back guarantee, and you really want this date in MS grade, it might be worth the time and money to get it, grade it in hand, and make the decision to keep or return.
