1942-I "Long Denticles" Halfpenny At Strand Coins.

Here's the only one I can lay my hands on right now it's raw and probably MS62'ish. The other is in a PCGS MS63BN slab. The third UNC one I've found was in an NGC MS62BN slab that didn't have a hope of ever grading at PCGS. That one I got rid of a few years back.

I think yours is a little better DVCollector. There's nothing like finding a scarce variety cheaply!

Mark, it might be easier to find US varieties in Aus, since fewer look for them.

All of mine have the the dropped "A" too.

This one doesn't appear to have a dropped "A"--described here.

All the 1942 I half penny coins I have seen have the 'A' in the normal position.

However, I've checked my 1943 I normal and 1942 I 'long denticles' coins. They all have the dropped 'A' but they do show differences in the lettering.

If the 1943 master die was used for the 1942 I 'long denticles' coins, then as I understand it, the features should be the same unless different master dies were used. I have included images to show the differences in my coins - particularly in the letters 'A' and 'U' of 'Australia'. The serifs are different.

This would seem to support the idea of two master dies for the 1943 I half penny.
