I was thinking... "What if Newfoundland never joined Confederation, but was still a separate country?". That led to this train of thought: since the Newfoundland dollar was pegged to the Canadian dollar, a Newfoundland loonie and toonie could have existed.

I was unsure what Newfoundland national symbol could fit in a little micro-engraved anti-counterfeiting circle, so I went with the crown and "TERRA NOVA" that appeared on the flag. The $2 coin is essentially a loving remake of the gold $2 coin, but I didn't know where I would put the security features.

I like your idea for a tribute to the $2 gold.

I like those designs, the toonie especially (can't stand Williams, but that's not the topic, I suppose).

A cod on the quarter and the Newfie arms on the half.

Not sure about the dime or the nickel... but the cent design would probably be the same as it was when it was discontinued.

A chilling possibility, though, is that Newfoundland would have become Canada's Niue, as a semi-independent (well, it was a complete British colony at the time) nation that all the crappy NCLT would have been farmed out to

If NF didn't join the Confederation in 1949 it is quite likely they would be using clad quarters and dimes, copper coated zinc cents and 75CU/25NI nickels as well as green colored currency...
