My dad just called me and asked if I could do some research on a coin he just found. I thought this would be a good place to start. He said he found a 2001 Vermont D with an extra D stamped above the O in God we trust. Has anyone on here seen or heard of this error? Thanks for your help.

We need a picture. Is the supposed D incuse (recessed) or raised? It doesn't sound like a Mint error if it is on a 2001. A picture would help clear it up...

Now that I have seen the actual coin. The D is stamped over the O in the word GOD and not above it. Maybe not the best picture. Thanks again for input.

It is extremely unlikely that a misplaced 'D' got stamped onto that coin at the mint.

The 'O' looks like the result of damage or a damaged die.

Meanwhile, if he thinks he has something special, he should keep it.

If there is a premium for something like that it probably wouldn't be a lot but there's no harm in hanging onto it.
