I just got back from my local coin store. A guy came in to find a hard plastic holder for a $1 bill he had. The serial numbers on both sides did NOT match! In the holder he had it in it included a certificate of authenticity. I didn't think it was polite to ask how much he paid for it. But does anyone here know?

A note collecting buddy of mine told me to keep an eye out for the 1995 series, because they often had miss matched serial numbers. I never found one in circulation, but my buddy sias they are out there. It's not a significant error. But a CU note could cost possibly $100+? But it's definetly a $50+ error. Check ebay and see if you can find any.

if it was gem...probably $200-300 for frn's, $400-500 for silver certs. a 1977A with 5 mismatched digits sold for over $1200 in vf condition. did you manage to catch the condition, series year, or how many digits were mismatched? it'd be easier to narrow the range down with more info.

Out of the stuff you just mentioned, the only thing I noticed was that it was the current bill look and it was uncirculated. The certificate made me think that some big coin store had sold it to him and that there were others.
