Hello:

This is my first post. I have some old silver coins, and some new silver coins of which I desire to sell. I'll try selling them on ebay.

But before I sell any of my coins, I want to know what the market value is for the coins I sell before I sell them.

Can anyone recommend an online or book source that is reliable in determining what a coin is worth?

Thank you.

Your question

I want to know what the market value is for the coins I sell before I sell them.

There are a number of questions before answers.
Do you know the grade of these coins?
Do you know the rarity of these coins?
Do you know the variety of these coins?
I'm not trying to discourage you but, these questions need to be addressed to sell and get your best buck.
Post some pictures and let the CCF people help you.

even just lists to start with would help. Are they sorted and stored or in piles, bags and boxes. You came to the right place, the people here are great and know what they are talking about. A good thing about lists first is you won't spend hours photographing common low quality stuff, they know the good stuff by heart!

Tons of posts on grading and which books are needed for a good reference library, search away (upper left corner, "Search Coin Community") it's endless! and please get us pictures, great help here about how to get a better snap then ebay quality.

If you know enough about coins to be able to determine their "grade" and their variety, you can check "completed" ebay listings for similar coins to get an idea of what "real world" prices are for your coin.

If not, post some pics in the "Coin Grading" forums to get the opinions of members here to help.

If you sell on ebay be sure to use descriptive titles and clear photos.
Auction so they end evenings and weekends.

Almost any web site you look at for prices are only an approximate. As already noted you really must know what you have or else you would have no idea what your selling.
Spend some time on ebay to see what similar coins are selling for. The worst part of this is you may well have what is known as a Mint Error coin and not know.
Due to things like that you may end up selling a very valuable coin for a really small amount.
Try posting some photos of what you have and ask about them.

PCGS Photograde Is a great resource for coin grading.

http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/

Lot's of folks here can give you accurate grading info if you can post good images of the obverse and reverse of your coins.

How-To-Price-Coins?

year 1987... one is not mint, the other is.

Except for the Olympic coin, I have a few of each of the other one's.

I still have to look up the prices of my coins before I sell them. First, on a website, and then second, see what the real world prices are on ebay. I intend to give a good deal to the buyer's on ebay, because really, I just want some cash in return for the coins. I plan on giving, perhaps, better than market value as I want to sell them quickly.

Some of my coins have collection value in addition to the silver value.

I realize the Olympic coin is not in mint... because I took it out of the casing when I was a young kid. However, the encased Silver Eagle should be mint.

I realize these aren't very good pictures of the coins nor are they placed well. I rushed it. Sorry about that.

I've finally gotten around to getting in the process of putting these coins up on ebay. I appreciate everyone who has given me the advice I needed. Thank you tons.

Though I didn't put it in the pictures, I have a gold panda, 1988, 5 yuan coin. I found it on the website that gives coin values, but I couldn't find the value. Here is the link: http://www.ngccoin.com/priceguide/c...eseSetID=708

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

I can tell you a little bit about the gold Panda. It is 1/20 of an ounce of gold. Even though it is one of the earlier coins in the series, the mintage was almost 470,000. Which is HUGE as Pandas go, silver or gold. It is the largest mintage of any 1/20 oz coin in the whole series. Unfortunately not even remotely rare. Probably worth about $100 which is way above spot, only because these fractional coins are a popular way to get into gold coins for people that can't afford $1300 for a 1oz.

When we sell, we watch several coins on ebay, which tells us what the current bidding public is willing to spend. Bids jump in the last few seconds. So, if you really want to see what they are going for today, find similar coins and watch them. And, values seem to change by day and time the auctions end. Do not watch coins ending during the Super Bowl. And, above all, factor in the ebay and Paypal fees. Then, do not list too many similar coins at the same time. You tend to take a bidder frm one coin to another, and flood the market.
