I just got this beauty a few hours ago. I have been seeing posts for the past few days about harshly polished Morgan's. Figured I'd see what my LCS had for a good price, with silver down to ~$20 an ounce. I got this 1878 and 4 Walking Liberty half's. But her face Three part question, 1. Grade? 2. How much would you pay/highest you would go on this grade/type coin. 3. Would you even think about working on the scratches or just leave them be, she's perfect as she is? DISCLAIMER: I just got this and don't want to sell it, don't be sending me offers, just want to know how good my LCS is. I think I like them, and I'll post actual price later, thanks for looking Thanks to AC/DC for the post title, always steal from the best

Genuine-Graffiti F-12 1878, first year bump, $23 is about right. Still, your first Morgan is like your first car. Congrats

I never said it was my first, but thanks, This is my 71st but the last one was only a little nicer and cost $36...
So close on the guesses, $22 for me, I knew I liked my LCS. They had a bin with about a dozen worn and nasty looking, so here is the real question if the face looked as good as the back, what would the grade and price be?

It's a 3d Reverse 1878 of no particular important variety in about VG10-F12; even without the graffiti a "base value" Morgan. Not unworthy, mind you, but not particularly valuable.

Thanks for the input, everyone!
UPDATE: I took it back in with a list of my missing dates, they had 3 that I needed so I asked if I could swap and they let me, sorry no pics it's in the book and stored away now. She's an 1891 so look out for her in "How far back can we go? Second Edition!"
