I'm no market expert by any means, and there are still good deals out there I'm sure. But I have definitely noticed the prices of a few things have bumped up since December. Maybe people were selling cheaper for Christmas money?

Partly that, probably, and partly people weren't in the market for those particular things at Christmastime. Or maybe the stuff you're tracking is thought by the sellers to be the kind of thing people spend present money on.

Yeah, probably less competition for ebay buyers. Not everyone has extra cash in December.

My theory is healthcare had something to do with it as well. Sales and prices fell like a rock when the info started pouring out on that, now that a lot of people know what their cost for it is instead of going of the estimates that know what they can actually afford to spend again.

I do agree though holiday shopping probably ate away at a lot of peoples coin funds too.

This is an historic pattern I've been watching for 15 years - December is the worst period and January/February usually the best for a coin seller.

Perhaps the crazy high prices that the Newman collection fetched is pushing prices up as well. Ya know the boat rising with the tide effect and all. I seem to remember reading a few articles shortly before that auction predicting it would likely have an impact on market pricing overall within 3 to 6 months.

I haven't noticed much of a price difference between December and now on ebay. However, personally to me ebay is 90% overpriced buy it now "deals", and is high no matter what month it is. ebay seems to be running higher than the major auction houses and although I have purchased one coin there over the last couple months I don't expect to be buying too many coins there.
