Went through the drive-thru at Timmie's today and checked the change before I put it away (as everyone else does, I'm sure...LOL) Anyhow, this was my "quarter"!

Nice millennium test token. Not a huge find but certainly very rare to find in change. Too bad about the green blob...

That's awesome. Did you try rubbing the green blob off, does it come off? I wonder how it found its way into circulation.

Thanks, Normic67! I tried to scrape it lightly but it's affixed onto there well.

I have a mint set of the 2011-12 tokens, but it was fun to find a circulated one from 14 years ago! Other than "The Blob", there is only some light scratching on the leaf.

It's a millennium token, but not a test token. Nice find anyway.

Would soaking the token in some really hot water soften the blob enough to get it off without otherwise damaging it (the token that is, not the blob).

Yes, these show up rarely. Very fun to find.

My ultrasonic cleaner would probably get the blob off, but you'll have to get your own (only 85 cents to mail it to me to clean it off, right?).

Thanks for sharing the picture! I have a few mint sets with it as well. I had one of them passed to me in change as well as the Canada post token with the dove. The wife got a 2013 O Canada quarter in her change last week. Crazy that someone would break the set. Either hard times or possibly a theft. Nice find.

Nalaberong, if you could clean it up for me, that would be great! I've never tried an ultrasonic cleaner before.

dollarman, yes, I have one of those sets! Your post reminded me. I just opened it up and the same obverse (leaf side) is on there. I never turned it over before. The case is a little banged up, so I never paid much attention to it.

The set is below for those not familiar. Two stamps, one is holographic. Sure glad the world didn't end at the stroke of midnight! LOL

I have seen an employee at Citadel Coins break up and use those sets to mail a parcel. It's like they just hate stamps (at least stamps are backed by Canada Post, right?).

I got a couple of those medallions (one like yours, and one different) in an ebay auction of quarter lots a year or so ago. Like your medallion here, several of the quarters had bits of green felt-like stuff clinging to them and I figured, as you did, they had all come out of a display set of some sort. Anyhow, definitely a fun find in your change!
