So at the last TCNC auction I picked up a couple quarters and 50 cent pieces and one of the details was that the coins were graded by Bob Armstrong.

Then I was looking at the gatewest web site (I live in Winnipeg so I frequently check there first to see what they have) and the seem to have a bunch of coins graded by Mr. Armstrong as well.

So who is Mr. Armstrong? Why is his grading so well respected? And how come he doesn't have a company for grading coins?

In general just any information about this individual would be nice.. I tried google and such but didn't really get much. Just curious as this name has popped up a few time.

Thank you for your input.

Quoted by glen "Bob does a great job in grading and many years ago was one of the four graders for I.C.C.S".

I believe he is supposed to be retired. He is a conservative
grader ,And his writing on the 2x2's to me is on level or better
than a ICCS flip.

He is a conservative grader

Very true, if the coin I acquired from him is any indication. I hopped over the border to attend the EONS show in Kingston, Ontario a number of years ago. Mr. Armstrong was there and sold me a 1900 Victoria fifty center that he graded VF. Eventually I submitted the coin to PCGS and it came back as XF40. Probably VF35 by ICCS standards.

As previously noted Bob was a grader for ICCS back in the day and his name carries a lot of weight in the industry. Bob has done grading for us in the past and he is one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is fair and as noted already a conservative grader which is quite refreshing.

Bob Armstrong along with his wife Joyce are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet.

Bob as a dealer is extremely ethical, friendly and very knowledgeable.

He retired almost to the minute of the financial crisis of 2008.

Talk about perfect timing!!

His showcases at coin shows was always my first stop and sometimes my only stop (as I ran out of money).

Well it's great to hear such good things of the guy...

I personally like the fact that I have a couple coins graded by him... it's like having a piece of history from what seems to be a very stand up guy that had done a lot for this hobby...

I'm very happy about my aquisition of some B.A. coins...
