I have about 7 rolls of Mercury dimes. What should I do with them?

Circulated dimes from the 1940's are only worth silver value. If this all that you have then keep them until silver goes higher. Many mercs are worth more than silver value, especially in higher grades or older dates. Have you separated these according to date/mintmark?

Lyle -- let me know if you have any interest in selling any of them for melt value...currently $1.45 per coin or $72.50 per roll of 50...

I'd sort through them and look for the better dates and overdates such as the 1942/1. There are a lot of doubled/repunched mintmarks and other oddities that are worth a premium depending on the grade. I'm assuming that these coins are worn, but if they are in higher grades they might be worth keeping as opposed to dumping them for melt.

I would recommend purchasing a Cherrypicker's guide. It might very well pay for itself should you happen to find a valuable piece in one of those rolls. I wouldn't be in any great hurry to sell until you look them over carefully....

If you could put together a roll or two of XF/AU they would fetch more than melt (common late dates).
A roll or two of low grade common dates would go into a 'sell for melt' group.
That's a lot of dimes to examine carefully but you get a bonus that your eyes will become
more acute at "looking at' a Mercury dime.
A nice, winter time project.

Tough to justify selling rolls of them for $72.50 when they're selling for upper $90's on the Bay. Even after fees you'd be looking at upper $80's net price. I'm sure most would prefer selling to members on this site, but money is money & the difference on 7 rolls would be over $100 lost

Trade it with something you like! Or sell it at a price you and buyer think is fair.

If you haven't looked for varieties yet, I would do that first to make sure you don't have anything really valuable.

As others have said, if you don't need to sell them right away you could hold on to them until silver increases or as macmercury suggested if you have other interests you could look at doing a trade.

You never mentioned dates. If not sure, you really should look just in case there are some really rare and/or valuable ones. Otherwise get an Album and see if you can fill or almost fill it. Could be fun.

I agree. If you have not already done this (and these rolls are duplicates or culls) then you should consider it.

Ah, very well then. Perhaps you can trade them in to a dealer towards purchase of the dates you need. I did this with some of my duplicate silver; it went to filling holes in my Franklin half dollar album.
