Hi all. I'm pretty new at this whole coin collecting thing and recently brought my first gold 1oz proof coin. Which I love!! I was planning to leave it in the sealed plastic wrap that it came in. The problem is is that the plastic wrap is not that well sealed on one edge and has a small hole. Should I put the coin in a different holder and if so which sort? Or should I just leave it? The coin diameter is 32.69mm. Any help would be appreciated! Thankyou

Maybe try to find a snap tight or air tite plastic holder.

What type of proof coin? Is the plastic wrap the only packaging?
If the coin itself is in a hard plastic capsule don't remove it unless the capsule is damaged.

Note he did state the package was damaged. I'd suggest you place that coin in a flip of some type. At 32.69 mm in diameter, should fit in a 2x2 cardboard or plastic one. Then you can seal it in many different ways. Since the packaging is aleady damaged, I strongly suggest changing it.

Some think that the original plastic packaging from the mint , is essential to the maximum value of the coin at resale. I am not in this camp. Were it in a special box or container, I would say yes, but a plastic wrapper ? No.

Gold coins do not tarnish or tone like silver does. So the fact that the plastic has a hole in it does not really affect the coin.. If you are just going to put it away, don't worry about it. If you are going to handle it and show it off, and are afraid it might fall out, then I would put it in a plastic capsule for safety from handling.

Is it a Sovereign or Britannia ?
