Here is a 2007 nickel with a large dot , bump or extra metal on the Queens lower face . What could have caused this besides the die ?

Rust beneath the plating?
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Heat or rust, looks like PMD to me.

Based on the fact that it looks like spots of rust around the bump, I'll have to agree with DBM and throw my hat into the ring with rust as well.

looks likes water had sat on the coin at one time and it's rusted through in spots. Now you know why we need a coin recycling program. Seems to me these plated coins will have to be replaced more often.
