I am learning of the differences in the U.S. and British grading systems and so far it seems the British system grades coins lower than the U.S. system. This could end up being an expensive lesson.

I have this 1757 6 pence that I got for $50 U.S., What grade/value would you assign it?

Thank you in advance,

1757-6-Pence

Solid VF on the Sheldon scale, I wish I could tell you in the British grade though.

This is probably somewhere around gF-aVF by British standards.

In Numismaster, F = $25 and VF = $45.

The eye is almost smooth.
The reverse on these are always stronger.

Spink 2014 £10 F £25 VF
I wouldn't want to pay Spink Book for a relatively common issue....maybe £15/£18 tops.

aVF. I think you overpaid. I'd put the value at $40 max.

George 11 silver always seems to wear more heavily around his eye than anywhere else on the coin.

Note those two listings are the same coin inquired about...

RE: George II/III... it seems like those (can) go for a lot more than they used to. Not ALWAYS (can be hit or miss, from my casual observation)... but on the whole they can fetch more then they used to, considering they are common, as you said. You can add the plentiful 1696/97 Association salvage shillings and 6d to that, too...
