I have a tip as to where a quart jar of silver is buried, a foot or so deep. I'm going to borrow my Dad's DFX to go looking for it. Any idea which factory setting will work best?

Probably the coins and jewelry program, or if I remember right, there's a deep silver program also.

Although not an especially deep-seeking machine, (I own one myself), I would expect it to go into overload over a signal such as that, shouldn't be very difficult to locate the silver jar if it's there.

Good luck.

not trying to be nosy or anything, but... did you find it? I apologize if it is rude to ask.

No luck. Dug up a heck of a lot of beer cans and a few artifacts. The ground was wet and still frozen in spots.. I may try again when it gets a bit warmer and dryer.
