I can't take it much longer. This winter has been terrible for metal detecting! I got a new detector for Christmas (ATPro) and can't wait to get out more. On the plus side, I've been out a couple of times and found my first silver (Rosie) in my front yard that I hunted many times with my old unit and around $10 in clad from the parks.

I'm convinced spring is not coming. Tomorrow's high is below zero in Minnesota. It's a good thing there is my club's show to go to and take the chill off.

I wanted to go to my LCS on Monday but I just checked the forecast and they think it's going to be freezing rain that day... FUN FUN FUN I drove in freezing rain once on the highway over the pass, the guy in front of me flipped into the ditch, I skated to an unsteady stop, it was a young family in a minivan, thankfully the only fatality was the van's passenger side, they were just shaken not stirred We've had an avalanche in a residential area and my neighborhood is in the middle of a storm warning area for high winds and severe wind-chill... Quote: I'm convinced spring is not coming I think I'm going to hibernate as much as possible, I'm so happy for my snow blower. Being from Montana or Minnesota you'd expect this type of thing, but COME ON! I do have pity for anyone that has inches to look forward to, especially those in the places that don't even know what a snow blower is. But I had to laugh at the obligatory news blurb about California drivers having trouble with a little bit of rain... I was in town yesterday and had to power skid around half the turns Massive pile ups here we come , be safe better yet stay home

We just got hammered here in Southern California with heavy rains and thunderstorms with flash flooding everywhere. My buddy and I were supposed to go to our local canyon gold detecting but had to reschedule for this coming Thursday where it is supposed to be nice. Hopefully these rains washed some nice nuggets down

Suddenly, we've got a week above freezing forecasted in Canada! Everything's melting - this is my least favourite time of the year because everything is brown and ugly.

I got out this past weekend for three hours and let the kids use my old Bounty Hunter. I almost forgot how terrible that machine is. When the kids had enough, I had a little time to my self and recovered $1.50 in clad and a nice sterling silver ring.

I live in SE Wisconsin just north of Milwaukee. One of the most miserable winters of my life is just ending. The ground here froze around December 1, so I haven't been able to get out detecting in over 3 1/2 months. I hope that all changes tomorrow. Some decent weather has melted most of the snow and it is supposed to be over 50 degrees tomorrow! I'm praying for thawed ground in the large park where I like to hunt. Winter has been far too long!

Well, the weatherman lied to us. No 50+ temperatures for us today. It was cloudy and maybe made it into the high 30s. The ground is only thawed to a depth of about two inches, so the metal detector did not get a workout.

I couldn't take it any more and got out my detector. Part of my yard (very well-hunted) was thawed, but the rest is still frozen.
I hadn't been detecting more than ten minutes when I looked up and saw a man walking toward me. He turned out to be a fellow metal detectorist. We got talking and exchanged phone numbers. He said he's dying to have a detecting buddy. He only lives a few blocks from me. I've now met two fellow detectorists with whom I can share my hobby.
By the way, my yard yielded a bolt, a beaver tail pull tab and an old faucet attachment. I don't think there's much left in it, but it has yielded two silver coins and about fifteen Wheaties, the oldest being a 1917 I found last fall.
